MOTION SENSOR

$200.00

Records change in distance over time, making it ideal for teaching of mechanics / kinematics.

The Motion sensor can capture the motion of running students, falling basketballs and carts on inclined planes.

Make lessons on time, speed, and acceleration fully interactive. Simple to use, select the best range, point at the target and collect data. Optimized range for time/distance work with students.

Featuring an industry leading sample rate of 50Hz, this sensor works well with the Dynamics System.

Physics:

  • Graphing your own motion
  • Velocity of carts on an inclined plane
  • Newton’s second law
  • Temperature and the speed of sound
  • Simple Harmonic motion
  • Elastic and inelastic collisions
  • Static and Kinetic Energy
  • Impulse and momentum

The Motion Sensor is a sonar device that emits ultrasonic pulses, which reflect off an object. It measures the time it takes a high frequency sound pulse to travel from the sensor to an object and back. This time data is used, together with the speed of sound to determine the distance of an object from the sensor.

When set in any of the 3 Distance ranges, the Motion sensor uses temperature compensation for greater accuracy. When using the Time range, temperature compensation is not used; therefore the correlation between temperature and the speed of sound can be investigated.

This Motion sensor takes the power it requires from the datalogger.

Works with the following Dataloggers:

VHub4 and VHub8
