Incorporating three sensors into one results in huge cost savings.

Four of the ranges are for general purpose use as they have filtering incorporated to eliminate the unwanted effects of modulation from room lighting (50Hz).

The fifth range (0 to 1K fast) has no filtering and will clearly show the modulation on an incandescent or fluorescent light. Point the sensor at a computer monitor to observe its refresh time.

The photo diode used in this sensor is sensitive to light in the range from 350 nm to 700 nm. The sensor has built-in infrared rejection filter, giving it a spectral response similar to that of the human eye.
